Bio
Kalien Hayes – Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach
Coach Hayes is a Bellingham native and proud alumnus of Whatcom Community College, where he played for the Orcas in 2017 and helped lead the team to a Final Four appearance. A graduate of Bellingham High School (Class of 2015), Hayes was a four-year varsity athlete and three-sport standout, earning First Team All-League honors in basketball.
Over the past four years, Hayes has built a strong coaching resume at Mount Vernon High School, serving as the Head JV Coach and Varsity Assistant. During his tenure, his teams achieved an impressive 80% winning percentage, captured a league title, and helped lead Mount Vernon to its first state tournament appearance in 13 years — as well as the program’s first back-to-back state appearances in over a decade. In addition to his high school coaching experience, Hayes is active in player development and serves as a coach for Team 360 Hoops, an AAU travel basketball program.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Hayes has spent most of his life in Bellingham and is passionate about giving back to the local basketball community. He brings energy, leadership, and a player-first mindset focused on helping student-athletes succeed both on and off the court.
