Bellingham, Wash. — The Whatcom Orcas earned a key North Region NWAC victory Wednesday night, defeating the Everett Trojans 56–47. Whatcom carried a 27–21 lead into halftime and continued its strong play in the second half to secure the win.
The Orcas shot 42 percent from the field and controlled the game on the boards, outrebounding Everett 46–23. Rokesia Sands led the rebounding effort with 15 boards, while Laylah Kessee added 10 rebounds in the victory.
With the win, Whatcom improves to 1–0 in league play and 3–10 overall. Everett falls to 0–1 in conference and 4–11 on the season.
The Orcas will travel to Port Angeles on Saturday, January 10, to face Peninsula College at 4:00 p.m. The Pirates are coming off a 101–45 win over Shoreline C.C. in their league opener and enter the contest 1–0 in conference play with a 9–4 overall record.
